Set a Vercel spending limit? It won't stop the bill unless Pause is on

The short answer
Vercel's docs say setting a spend amount does not stop usage on its own. To stop incurring costs above your spend amount, Pause Production Deployments has to be enabled, so Vercel pauses your projects when the amount is reached. The trade-off: while paused, your production deployments stop serving traffic, and your websites, APIs, and functions are unavailable to visitors until you resume each project.
What to do
- In the Spend Management section of your team's settings, check that the Pause Production Deployments switch is Enabled.
- Pick the risk you'd rather take: with Pause on, usage stops at your amount but your site goes offline; with Pause off, your site stays up and usage keeps going.
- Using the Vercel CLI? Since October 23, 2026, it can set it too, for example: vercel budgets set --amount 200 --pause. Without --pause, it doesn't pause.
Good to know
- The spend amount covers metered usage beyond the Pro plan's monthly credit. It does not include seats, integrations (such as Marketplace), or separate add-ons.
- Spend Management is available on Pro and on Enterprise with the Flexible Commitment plan. Vercel checks usage every few minutes.
