The short answer

Yes. On OpenAI's deprecations page, these models shut down on October 23, 2026: gpt-3.5-turbo, gpt-4, gpt-4-turbo, o1, o3-mini, o4-mini, gpt-4.1-nano, gpt-image-1 and the gpt-4o-2024-05-13 snapshot. OpenAI says that at the time of the shut down, the model or endpoint will no longer be accessible. gpt-4o and gpt-4o-mini are not on that list.

What to do

  1. Find the model name your app sends. Your AI tool can search the code for it.
  2. If it's on the list, switch to the replacement OpenAI lists, then test the feature.
  3. Ask your AI tool: "Find every OpenAI model name this app sends. If one is on OpenAI's October 23, 2026 shutdown list, tell me the listed replacement and what to test."

Good to know

  • OpenAI removed the Assistants API on August 26, 2026.
  • Using Claude Sonnet 4.5 through the Claude API? Anthropic lists its retirement for November 30, 2026, and says requests to models past the retirement date will fail.
