Do you have to fill in app privacy labels? What Apple and Google ask

Ship ItChecked against the official sourceNot legal advice.

The short answer

Yes, on both stores. Apple requires your app's privacy details in App Store Connect to submit new apps and app updates, including the practices of third-party partners whose code you integrate, like analytics tools, advertising networks and third-party SDKs. Google Play requires every app to complete the Data safety form, even apps that do not collect any user data, and that includes data collected and handled through any third-party libraries or SDKs.

What to do

  1. List the data your app collects, and the SDKs inside it.
  2. Apple: fill in your app's privacy details in App Store Connect. Data you collect for reasons other than analytics or advertising still needs to be declared.
  3. Google Play: complete the Data safety form in Play Console (App content, Data safety) and link a privacy policy.
  4. Keep your answers accurate: you're responsible for them.

Good to know

  • On Google Play, apps that don't comply are subject to enforcement, like blocked updates or removal from Google Play.
  • Apple lists some cases where disclosure is optional. They are not covered here.
