Does my app need a privacy policy? App Store and Google Play say yes

Ship ItChecked against the official sourceNot legal advice.

The short answer

On the app stores, yes. Apple's App Review Guidelines (5.1.1(i)) say all apps must include a link to their privacy policy, in App Store Connect and within the app. Google Play's User Data policy asks for a privacy policy link in Play Console and a link or text within the app itself. And if you built with Lovable, its privacy policy says the person or organization that built an app is responsible for the data it collects.

What to do

  1. List every piece of personal data your app collects, how, and why.
  2. Have your AI tool draft a plain-English policy from that list.
  3. Link it in your app and in your store listing.

Good to know

  • AI can draft it, but Apple says the policy must identify what data you collect, how you collect it and all uses of that data. Your list is what makes it accurate.
