The short answer

Apple updated its App Review Guidelines on October 16, 2026. Guideline 1.2 covers apps that enable users to create, generate, upload, share, or otherwise contribute content, and says: "This includes social media, user-generated content platforms, and AI content creation apps." Such apps must include a method for filtering objectionable material, a mechanism to report offensive content with timely responses to concerns, and the ability to block abusive users.

What to do

  1. Check that your app has all three: a filter for objectionable material, a way to report offensive content, and a way to block abusive users.
  2. Make your app's features clear to users and App Review: new guideline 2.5.19 says don't include any hidden, dormant, or undocumented features.
  3. Read the guidelines before you submit.
  4. Ask your AI tool: "My app lets users create content with AI. Add a filter for objectionable content, a Report button with a way for me to review reports, and a way to block abusive users."

Good to know

  • Apple's news item says 1.2 was clarified, including a potential Developer Code of Conduct violation for failing to implement appropriate safeguards.
