The short answer
Apple's developer news of November 2, 2026: starting November 16, 2026, the age rating questionnaire in App Store Connect asks whether your app includes Shared Location (sharing of real-world location with another person or group) and Dating and Relationships (dating or relationship connections between real people, or a virtual companion with sexual or romantic content). Apps that include Dating and Relationships receive a minimum age rating of 18+.
What to do
- Check whether your app shares a user's real-world location with another person or group, or has dating, relationship or AI companion features.
- Answer the two new questions when you submit your next app update, or when you change your age rating questionnaire.
- If you don't plan an update, complete the declarations anyway before January 12, 2027.
Good to know
- Apps that include Shared Location may not have an impact on their minimum age rating in some regions.
- In Brazil, local regulations require an A16 rating for Shared Location and an A18 rating for Dating and Relationships. You can request an official lower rating from Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security, for example for location sharing designed for parents and children.
- Not legal advice.
