Android developer verification: do Google Play developers need to do anything?

Ship ItChecked against the official source

The short answer

Android developer verification started on September 30, 2026, for users who install apps from participating stores in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Android's page says verification capability will be expanded globally for all apps on certified Android devices in 2027. On Google Play, most developers need no new action for identity verification, and Google Play automatically registers 99% of apps. Still, check for apps that are left to register.

What to do

  1. Open your Play Console Home page and look for apps that still need registering.
  2. Register any remaining apps you want to keep distributing, to avoid global removal from Google Play.
  3. Also distribute apps outside Google Play? You can register those in Play Console too. If you distribute only outside Google Play, use the Android Developer Console.

Good to know

  • Google gives no exact 2027 date for the global expansion.
