The short answer
On Android, a web app (PWA) with a proper manifest can show its own Install button. But MDN says about that custom button: "This is not supported on iOS." iPhone users can still install your web app themselves: on iOS 16.4 and later, PWAs can be installed from the Share menu.
What to do
- On iPhone, hide your Install button and show a short hint instead.
- The hint: tap Share, scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then turn on Open as Web App.
- Ask your AI tool: "Show the Install button only where the browser fires beforeinstallprompt. On iPhone, show a short hint instead: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, then turn on Open as Web App."
Good to know
- On iOS 16.4 and later, PWAs can be installed from the Share menu in Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Orion.
