The short answer
Yes, since Lovable's import launched on October 29, 2026, but not through Git sync. Lovable's GitHub docs: Git sync always creates a new repository for a project. To start a project from a repository, download the repository as a ZIP (Code, Download ZIP on the repository page) and import it with Upload code. The import copies the code into a new project. Bolt and v0 can also import an existing repo.
What to do
- On the repository page on GitHub, click Code, then Download ZIP.
- In Lovable, open Import project to Lovable from the + menu on your dashboard, select Upload code and upload the ZIP.
- If you want a repository that stays in sync with the new project, connect Git sync afterwards. It creates a new repository.
Good to know
- Updated on 4 Nov 2026: the video says Lovable can't import a GitHub repo. That was true when it was made, and Lovable's docs said no. Since October 29, 2026, the import accepts a repository downloaded as a ZIP.
- The code export does not contain your database records or your app's user accounts. Lovable asks for the database export after the first preview.
- Your first import is free. After that, imports are treated as standard build usage and consume credits.
- Moving to Bolt instead? Use Import from URL and enter your GitHub repository URL. Moving to v0? Use Import from GitHub.
