The short answer
If your domain's encryption mode in Cloudflare is set to Flexible, Cloudflare sends unencrypted requests to your origin server (your host) over HTTP. Redirect loops occur if your host automatically redirects all HTTP requests to HTTPS. Vercel does: its automatic HTTP-to-HTTPS redirect can't be disabled.
What to do
- In the Cloudflare dashboard, go to the SSL/TLS Overview page.
- Choose Full (strict), with a valid certificate on the origin.
- Cloudflare's own warning: if your origin forces HTTPS, do not use Flexible mode.
Good to know
- Vercel does not recommend placing a reverse proxy in front of a Vercel project.
- Lovable's custom domains need DNS only, without Cloudflare's proxy.
