The short answer
Apple's screenshot specifications say you must include at least one screenshot and can upload up to 10 per device size, as .jpeg, .jpg or .png. For iPhone, at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) is required: 1179 x 2556 or 1206 x 2622 pixels in portrait. App Review Guideline 2.3.3 says screenshots should show the app in use, and not merely the title art, login page, or splash screen.
What to do
- Take at least one portrait screenshot at the required iPhone size: 1179 x 2556 or 1206 x 2622 pixels, saved as JPEG or PNG.
- Remove any transparency. Images can't include alpha channels or transparencies.
- If your interface is the same across device sizes, you only provide the highest required resolution. App Store Connect scales them down.
- Ask your AI tool: "Fill this app with realistic demo data and list the 5 screens that best show what it does, so I can take App Store screenshots of the app in use."
Good to know
- Apple's developer news of October 5, 2026 says that starting April 2027, any apps or games submitted will need to include screenshots for iPhone Duo. Apple's screenshot specifications page words this rule differently, so check it before you submit.
