The short answer
In a post on October 15, 2026, the Claude Code team writes that one pull request went through more than fifty rounds of review and fixes overnight, while the reviewer was rarely finding new bugs, only a few more old ones each round. Their fix: after three rounds, the reviewer asks the author to step back and reconsider the approach, and bugs are flagged by class so the author fixes every instance, not one line. Pull requests needing five or more rounds fell from 8.9% to 1.5%.
What to do
- Count your fix rounds. After three tries at the same bug, stop asking for small fixes.
- Ask for the whole class of bug to be fixed, everywhere it appears, not one line at a time.
- Ask your AI tool: "We've tried three fixes. Stop changing code. Explain the root cause in plain language, then suggest a different approach."
Good to know
- The three-round cap is the team's rule for reviewing pull requests. Using it on your own fix loop is our suggestion.
