Lovable created a Supabase project for you? Who pays and what you can't change

The short answer

Lovable can create the Supabase project for you, in your own Supabase organization, and Supabase bills the new project to that organization, not to Lovable. It works when the built-in backend is disabled for your workspace, your workspace has a linked Supabase organization, and your Lovable project has no backend yet. A project's region cannot be changed after Lovable creates it.

What to do

  1. Check that you are a workspace admin or owner: only they can do this.
  2. Lovable asks you to approve the request first. On the approval card, choose the right Supabase organization and the region closest to your users.
  3. Check your Supabase plan before you approve, because Supabase bills you for the project.
  4. If the attempt fails partway, open your Supabase organization and connect the project to your app or delete it there.

Good to know

  • Lovable never deletes a Supabase project it created, including when the attempt fails partway through. Asking Lovable again does not create a second project.
  • If the built-in backend is available, Lovable enables that instead.
  • Creating the project can take several minutes.
