The short answer

Cursor's minimum version policy: older Cursor versions show an update warning and later stop working until you update. On the schedule as of October 26, 2026, versions older than 3.12 stop working on November 22, 2026, and versions older than 3.18 stop working on December 14, 2026. Cursor says the dates may change.

What to do

  1. Download the latest version from cursor.com/download and install it over your current version, or use the Update button in the message.
  2. If updates are turned off on your machine (the update.mode setting) or by your admin, update manually or ask your admin to deploy the latest version.

Good to know

  • After the date, Cursor still opens, but it shows an Update required message and agent requests fail with an Update Required error until you update.
  • Nothing is deleted: your chat history and settings are still there after you update.
  • A release usually reaches the warning point about 2 months after it ships, and stops working about 3 months after it ships.
