The short answer

On October 27, 2026, the Next.js team announced a scheduled security release for Tuesday, November 3, 2026. It addresses seven medium vulnerabilities in Next.js. Next.js said it would publish the full advisories, including impact, affected versions and upgrade instructions, alongside the release, and it recommends upgrading to a patched version once the release is available.

What to do

  1. Check which Next.js version your app uses.
  2. Skipped the October 14, 2026 update? Update to v16.4.1 (Active LTS) or v15.5.28 (Maintenance LTS) first. It fixed two critical remote code execution vulnerabilities and one high-severity denial of service issue.
  3. Once the November 3 release is out, read its advisories and update to the patched version for your app.
  4. Ask your AI tool: "Check which Next.js version this app uses. If the November 3, 2026 security release has a patched version for it, update to it, run the build, and tell me what changed so I can redeploy."

Good to know

  • Our tip: after updating, run the build in a preview deployment before you redeploy to production.
